The Hello Experiment

I just called to say I’m stalking you.

In 1984 Lionel Richie scored a huge hit with his song Hello. In the video, Richie introduces America to the concept of “stalking.”

Lionel plays a drama teacher who falls in love with a blind student of his.  He follows her throughout the video trying to work up the nerve to tell her he loved her. He stalks her in the halls, in her dance class, out in the quad; he even calls her late at night just to hear her voice.

If that isn’t a stalker I don’t know what is. The big payoff in the video is that the girl has been sculpting a bust of Lionel which she shows him at the end, thus rewarding his creepy behavior.
