In a World Without Don LaFontaine

Hollywood lost its voice.

don-lafontaine-56304884Who is Don LaFontaine are ask? You probably don’t know his name but I guarantee you know his voice. Don did the voice over work on over 5,000 movie trailers, and hundreds of thousands of TV spots. Don is credited with coining the phrase  “In a world” that has been  said countless times in movies trailers.

I bring this up because the Academy Awards didn’t included him in their In Memoriam Tribute last Sunday night. Every year people get left out of the tribute, but not honoring Don LaFontaine was a great disservice to the man.

Wolverine’s X-Factor Saves Oscars

The Lily the Pink Perspective

captfec6b0a947600fae6972361a460fbe71From the moment Hugh Jackman was announced as the host of the 81st Annual Academy Awards we were assured a very musical ceremony. However, the night still held a few surprises, and the opener held more than its fair share of them.  For one thing, who knew Wolverine was THAT charismatic?  He took what could have been a cheesy, slightly conceited opening song-and-dance number and injected it with personality. Granted, he got a little help from Anne Hathaway who showed the world a damned passable Nixon imitation and that she could sing, but for the most part it was all Jackman and he owned it.  He most assuredly bought himself a little gratitude from the Academy, and in doing so made himself just a little bit hotter in most of our eyes, if that’s even possible.

And the Winner is…

The KeeblerKahn Perspective

slumdog_millionaire_best_picture_2009_oscars_1Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner at the 81st annual Academy Awards taking home 8 Oscars. For the most part the night was uneventful. There was one minor upset, Penélope Cruz taking the Oscar for best supporting actress. Sean Penn pulled off a huge upset beating out Mickey Rourke in the best actor category.

I kind of feel sorry for Mickey Rourke. I thought he did a great job in The Wrestler and deserved to win. Let’s face it, when is he going to get at another shot at an Oscar. I’m glad Sean Penn won; he did an amazing job in Milk. Personally I thought Milk should have won best picture. I liked Slumdog Millionaire but I thought Milk was better.
