Afternoon Squee!

Momonga Squee!

The Japanese have long kicked our asses in the cute department (right next to housewares on the second floor), but this is ri-DIC-ulous. They must have genetically engineered this little flying squirrel, because seriously, Disney could not have concocted anything cuter if they tried. Look at those big eyes and its little smile.  You just know they have some adorable little momonga theme song that they sing in squeaky little voices as they sail from tree to tree.

Afternoon…er…Squee?

World’s Ugliest Dog

It’s Pabst!  A boxer-mix named Pabst won the annual World’s Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California on Friday.  His owner, Miles Egstad had this to say: “I don’t think he’s that ugly!”

APTOPIX World's Ugliest Dog

He’s not as ugly as some of the dogs pictured below, but he sure could use a trip to the dentist.  Perhaps Thundersquee!’s own Sarah might have a recommendation.

Afternoon Squee!

What an Awesome Display of Cunning Pack Mentality! (Pack mentality indeed, it’s more like pack brutality!)

Today’s guest contributor for Afternoon Squee! is Squeer! Cristal Methodd.

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.

The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the “apex predator” in its natural eco-system, can still fall victim to the well  implemented “team work” strategy that’s made possible by the tight knit social structure and “survival of the fittest pack mentality” bred into the canines over thousands of years by natural selection.

Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while the remainder of the pack prevents the beast from rolling.

Photo after the jump. Not for the squeamish!

Afternoon Squee!

Moscow Cat Theater

This is less like a video and more like a three minute documentary.  It’s also completely worth the watch.  The official description goes like this:

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more unusual circus, or father-daughter performing duo. The Moscow Cat Theatre is just that: a travelling show of cats that perform amazing tricks for the owners who love and train them. Everybody in Russia may be used to seeing cats perform tricks, as the theatre’s manager explains in this funny, charming film, but felines walking tightropes, crossing the stage on giant balls and walking upside down is not a common sight in most countries. As a balalaika and accordion circus score plays in the background, Creative Director Vladimir and his daughter Maria combine their love of cats and stage to create a captivating act and illustrate the tricks of the trade – giving new meaning to the expression ‘herding cats’.

Afternoon Squee!

Nate Dogg: “If you smoke like I smoke, then you’re high like every day.”

nate-dogg

I present to you Squeers! my dog, Nate Dogg.  Yeah yeah, he’s been the subject of a previous Afternoon Squee!, but I’m at the airport and my flight is boarding.  Plus, he’s freakin’ cute.

In the words of Nate Dogg:

“ruff ruff!”

(For those wondering from whence the subcaption came, the quote is from an old Warren G song: “REGULATORS!”)
