Life in 5,7,5

We at Thundersquee! can’t help but be indignant at the inequities of the poetic form when it comes to expressing the more low brow moments in life. So, to help even the field we offer you Lowku. The game and aim are simple. Twice a week we’ll display an image of one of life’s more “WTF?” moments, and your mission is to carefully select words that add up to 17 syllables and string them together in 5,7,5 form in order to describe said image or tell its story. Each Monday and Wednesday the winners of the previous challenge will be announced and a new image will be posted to ignite the next round of genius.

The last round’s winners and a new image, after the jump:

I…I loved them all.  The creativity displayed here is what makes me love doing this feature, and I know I’m being a little gushy, but seriously.  Mondays and Wednesdays make my week because I start reading and laugh from start to finish and find little gems in each Lowku, and they are all different, and blah…OK, I’m stopping now.  You all suck for making me sappy!  There, did that counter-balance it a bit?

Before I get started, a note to Cristal Methodd.  Sorry some get blocked, but some low brow moments are lower than others.  Today I will make sure this one is one that allows you to play along.

On to the awards!

Don’t Fear the Reaper Award: baby fish mouth

Reaper needs to clean
Out junk room. Self portrait and
Cat girl have to go.

Most in Tune with the Times: SeaKat

The recession has
impacted the quality
of Hefner’s parties.

Most Poetic: Donna Martin

furtive sidelong glance
soft! grim reaper approaches
scythe at the ready

P.S.  Emily Dickinson would be proud

The “Yeah, I Can See It” Award: Addmittedly Addicted (Good to have you back!)

Are all of you sure
that that is even a girl?
Reconsider this…

Ralph couldn’t get a
girlfriend, so he decided
he’d be the stand in.

Aaaaand, last but not least:

The “Yes, the Last Stanza Stands on Its Own, but the Whole Thing Works So Well to Describe Life with a Cat” Award (and possibly the longest award name in history): The Hobo (Glad to have you back, too!)

In order to save
His mother’s couch, David turned
His cat into a

Real live girl. And yet
She still prefers the arm rest
To his lap. And she

Still stares at the screen
Of his TV with longing
as though it is still

More interesting
Than anything he has
To offer his cat girl.

It dangles, he says.
Why won’t you play with it? Please?
Bored, she turns away.

Awesome job, everyone, as usual.  Here’s today’s “Clean via the Cristal Methodd” image.

  3. The fact that “travelocity” has 5 syllables is karma, man.

    Well done- vf.

(Although, take it from me, when we’re talking about kids, the stool is ALWAYS included. IYKWIMAITYD)

  7. Mom always hand made
    Halloween costumes each year
    For Jack and Billy.

    Jack’s favorite one
Was the gnome, but Billy liked
    His buffalo one.

    Jack outgrew them young
    But little Billy really
    Took to sewing things.

    When mom died, Billy
    Never felt the same. Until
    He decided to

    Make his own costume
Better than what mom made, and
    Never take it off.

  12. Do not be afeared,
lil’ dwarf. With six more left, she
    won’t notice you’re gone.

    I know a great place
    in the 100 Acre Wood
    to hide for a while.

    Quick! take my hand and
    we’ll never talk about this
    scary stool again.
