Steven Spielberg Making an MLK Movie

With the King Estate’s permission, mostly

martin_luther_king_jrSteven Spielberg has signed a deal with Dexter King, the Reverend Doctor’s son, who is chairman-CEO of the King Estate. The deal will grant Spielberg access to King’s private papers.  Not everyone in the King family is happy about this. Bernice King and Martin Luther King III are suing their brother Dexter over just who has control over their mother Coretta Scott King personal papers. It is sad that it has come down to this. You can bet that this is all about money. I’m guessing Dexter has control of it and Bernice and Martin want control of it.

“This is a deal that Mr. Spielberg and his people … have entered into believing that they have the blessing of the King Estate. They don’t have the blessings of Bernice and Martin King.”

Say "hate" again. Say "hate" again. I dare you. I double dare you, motherfucker. Say "hate" one more goddamn time!

Say hate again. Say hate again. I dare you. I double dare you, motherfucker. Say hate one more goddamn time!

This is Steven Spielberg we are talking about. If anyone is going to do a good job on a movie about Martin Luther King, Jr. you can bet it will be him. I’m sure Spike Lee would disagree, though. It’s not like Dexter King signed off with someone like Oliver Stone or Quentin Tarantino who would only screw it up.

Although I have to say, a Quentin Tarantino directed Martin Luther King, Jr. movie has its possibilities. If he’s got to do it, there is obviously only one man who could play King.

I have a motherfuckin’ dream! One motherfuckin’ day, right there in motherfuckin’ Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join motherfuckin’ hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

  1. Why doesn’t he just read his papers, act like he didn’t read them, use them, then put up a disclaimer that the movie is fictional? I swear, hollywood types these days. They don’t have the good sense to be dishonest.

  2. Actually, all of them BUT Spielberg do.

Which, frankly, is why I like him. 🙂
