Irish Exports

Afternoon Music Edition

In continued celebration of the cultural influence of Ireland, we bring you more music, this time of a less traditional nature.  It may be somewhat removed from its folkish cousin, but the themes are similar and it’s just as influential.

  1. I loved The Boomtown Rats. I also had a crush on bob Geldof for years. That died when he started naming his children things like “PeachesandHerb Pixiesticks Trixisforkids Fifi Analucia Michelle Geldof.”

All of the above is a true story.

  2. Sarah: I had you pegged for more of a Stiff Little Fingers girl, given you like the Clash, too. 🙂 But yeah, Bob is what Bono wishes he was, without the incredibly stupid childrens’ names. In Bob’s defense, though, he adopted his former wife’s kids that she had with Michael Hutchence after she killed herself and Hutchence had um, died of misadventure. So some of them came with stupid names.

  3. ootvimh You had the chance to use one of the greatest phrases ever, and you fudged it for the sake of decorum? For shame!

Say it with me folks: “… after he died in a wanking accident”

    Just the words “wanking accident”.

It has all the connotations of “industrial accident”, with the added joy of choking the wookiee (well, more than the wookiee, in that specific case…)

  5. sar: As far as I know, the coroner was the only person to ever believe it was suicide. His family and his late baby momma all swore he wasn’t suicidal. I think his brother was even petitioning the Australian courts to get the suicide ruling overturned at one point. I don’t know if he ever did.

  6. p.s. You have to really believe it if you’d rather your relative’s death be labeled a wanktality than suicide.

  8. Don’t forget the insurance $$.

Most likely payable if it’s a wanktality (hee!) but not if it’s suicide.

Money has overcome shame any number of times. Just ask the cast of .
